My Gardenias Are Blooming and They Smell Heavenly!

When we moved into this house 30 years ago, I planted some Gardenia bushes. I think it was about 4 bushes. A couple of years later, I took some cuttings and grew them in pots until they had developed a good root system. Now I have Gardenia bushes along one side of my fence in the back yard (we have a huge back yard).

Anyway, they started blooming a few days ago. A heavenly scent greets me every time I open the back door. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

Having My Dog Spayed

I’ve really waited a long time to have this done. She is 3 years old. But today I took her to the vet to be spayed. I opted for the pain shot after the surgery. I don’t want her hurting later.

Anyway, I took her in this morning and dropped her off. She was wearing her muzzle because she does not like strangers or kids. I did tell them not to remove it until they have her sedated. She may be a small dog, but I really believe she would bite someone if she felt threatened, probably more out of fear than aggression. I hope they follow my instructions regarding the muzzle.

I get to pick her up between 4 and 430 pm today. She will probably be very groggy. But it will be a relief not to have to worry about her being in heat and attracting a ton of admirers. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bella Evening 005a

Picked her up. She is doing well. The surgery went well. Of course, she is playing it to the 9’s. She is such a “diva” dog. When we are watching her she has that “poor pitiful me” act going on. But when we are not (or when she thinks we are not) she continues on with only minor indications of discomfort. I do have pain pills for her and will give them to her as prescribed for a couple of days.

C25K

Several weeks ago, at the urging of my youngest, I started C25K (couch to 5 K). First, I downloaded the free app to my phone. Then I began with Week 1 Day 1. At my age, I didn’t think I should begin with running. So when the program said to run, I just power walked. I managed to get through Week 4 before I twisted my knee. Not enough to incapacitate me, but enough to know that I had done it.

Well a week goes by before I can get back on the treadmill. In the meantime, I walked the dog a few times, but nothing strenuous. So this morning I started back at Week 1 Day 1 and I RAN! Yes, I ran! I’m not fast by a long shot, but I managed to get my old heart pumping and worked up a sweat.

My goal is to actually run a 5 K sometime in the future. It won’t matter if I come in last; I just want to finish.

Wish me luck.

Oh, BTW, this is my little mutt.

Private Tour Of Fort Pickens

The other day, oldest and I took a trip out to Ft. Pickens. It was a beautiful day.

When we reached the gate, the Park Ranger asked if we need a map of the fort and info on it. Oldest said “No”. After all, he has a history degree and he has thoroughly researched Ft. Pickens.

He told me all about the guns, bricks, people in charge, etc. I learned stuff I never even knew.

But, please don’t expect me to remember all of that stuff. I’m old and decrepit after all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are some photos for you to enjoy.

Giving a Baby Bird a Second Chance

Hubby was out in the backyard when he noticed a baby bird on the ground. He came and got me to take a look at it. Any time we got near it, it opened its’ little mouth expecting food. I have heard numerous times that it is best to leave them because mom and dad will continue to take care of it. But there is an added problem to my backyard.

I have 3 outdoor cats and 1 dog that is of a hunting breed. I knew that little baby would not survive my menagerie without a little extra help.

So we took an old cardboard box and placed it on its side on top of some old shelving. I put an old towel in there and placed the baby inside. Then we waited.

Mom and dad are around checking things out. I haven’t seen either of them go in the box, but they seem to be aware that the baby is in there. I certainly hope they continue to take care of him/her.

5-11-14 I’ve been dreading posting this, but this little guy did not make it. I guess he had internal injuries from the fall that were too great to overcome.

Gulf Islands National Seashore

Yesterday, youngest and I visited one of the designated Gulf Islands National Seashore spots. This is, upon first look, just a resting spot for those needing to take a break from driving and to use the bathroom.

But there are several nature trails here and pathways down to the beach. We took one of the trails that got off the boardwalk and went through the woods. I took quite a few photos and here are a few for you to enjoy.

Pensacola Is In the News

We had some horrendous rain this past week. Flash flooding did a lot of damage to this area, more so than some hurricanes have done in the past. Thankfully, I live in a high ground area. We did not lose power or have the flooding here in my area that was so pronounced in other areas. I will post some pictures of areas badly hit.

The county jail also suffered a gas explosion and several were hurt in that incident. No pictures available of that accident.

The washed away roads, downed power lines, etc. have caused some major damage and problems in this area. Some folks have lost their homes, belongings and pets.

Traffic has been adversely affected. Re-routing of major north/south traffic has been a nightmare. Locals are finding unique ways to get from one location to another.

But life goes on.

Playing Around With My Camera

The other day, I went out in the yard and took pictures of different things. Just playing around with various settings, etc., using the zoom. Here are a couple of photos from that moment in time.
