Popcorn Mile a Minute Afghan

Lately I’ve been working on a popcorn mile a minute afghan.  I have a basic mile a minute pattern but no pattern that included the popcorn stitch.  So I came up with my own.

When I complete a strip, I add chain 3 every other stitch around.  Then when I am on the last row (the chain 3 row) of the next strip, I crochet it to the first completed strip.  I prefer to crochet the strips together as I make them so I am not putting them together once they are all done.  It makes me feel as if I have accomplished something and I don’t tend to have another unfinished project lying around the house.

Here are a couple of pictures of my work in progress:

  1. Very pretty. Is it called mile a minute because you can do it so fast? I admire your goal to avoid having several unfinished projects all calling your name. I thought of you this weekend. I was at an antique store, (it was really mostly used stuff instead of antiques). I found a hot pad that looked like grapes. Someone had crocheted around bottle caps then sewed them together. I remember my mom had several hot pads like that. I don’t think they were around bottle caps though. Have you seen the article I’m describing. Do you think it would be difficult to make?

  2. I’ve seen those patterns before. It would be easy to crochet around bottle caps. The problem would be finding metal bottle caps. Most everything now is plastic.

  3. Good idea connecting the strips as you go. This is going to be really pretty. I have been macraming lately but do miss crocheting. Got to get back to it.

  4. I think my oldest son will get this one. The colors are black red and white. Kind of masculine colors.
